- Classmates participate in synchronous (realtime) discussions
- Participants see each others' text in a shared dialogue area
- The discussion feature is built into WebTycho; you do not have to obtain additional software to participate

If you don't see Chat Room on your Class Menu
Faculty may disable this feature for the whole class. Firewalls
To use Chat you must have access to ports 1533 and 8082. If you are having trouble accessing the Chat Room it may be that your ISP or LAN has installed firewalls which are blocking access. Consult your ISP or Network Administrator for assistance. How to Participate - Select Chat Room on the Class Menu
- Type in the bottom frame and press <Enter>, or click Send
- Double-click a classmate's name to begin a private instant message conversation
- You can download a transcript of the full discussion for up to 20 minutes after the last person has left the room
